Swimming with humpback whales is a powerful an unforgettable experience that will stay in your memory for ever.

Each season, we welcome people from all over the world who share the same dream. The ones who enjoy the experience most deeply are often those who arrive with a little preparation and the right mindset.

Here are a few simple tips to help you make the most of every moment in the water.

Choose the Right Time and the Right Experience

Not all whale encounters are the same. If your dream is to see a mother and calf, the timing will not be the same as for dynamic interactions or multi whale encounters. Choosing the right period is key. So is choosing the right operator.

Do not hesitate to ask questions, compare approaches, and understand how encounters are conducted. If you need guidance, we are always available to help.

Book in Advance

Availability is limited.

The best operators work with small groups, and spots fill quickly, especially during peak season.

Do not expect to find last minute availability on site. Planning ahead is essential.

Stay Close to Your Departure Point

Boat days are long and intense.

Choosing accommodation close to your departure location will make a real difference. Less time in the car means more energy for the ocean.

Get Travel Insurance

This is not optional.

At Wild Aura, travel insurance is mandatory for all our expeditions. It allows you to travel with peace of mind and be prepared for any unexpected situation.

When you are far from home, on the ocean, this matters.

Anticipate Seasickness Before It Becomes a Problem

Spending hours on a boat is part of the experience. Even on calm days, the ocean moves.

If you are slightly sensitive to seasickness, start early. Try a few boat trips before your trip if possible. Test what works for you, whether it is natural remedies or medication such as Dramamine or Scopolamine.

If you suffer from severe seasickness but this experience is a dream, do not give up. There are specialized reeducation programs that can significantly improve your tolerance to motion.

Managing this in advance can completely change your experience.

Come Rested and Physically Ready

Whale days are long. Early mornings, hours on the water, repeated entries in the ocean.

You do not need to be an athlete, but you need energy.

If possible, plan a few rest days before your trip. Arriving already tired will impact your ability to enjoy the experience. The goal is to be fully present, physically and mentally.

Be Comfortable in the Water

This is essential.

You do not need to be a professional swimmer, but you must feel comfortable in open water with mask, fins, and snorkel. You will need to swim efficiently, sometimes in current, sometimes after a quick entry from the boat. Stress in the water can make you miss the moment.

If needed, take a few lessons before your trip. Practice snorkeling. Get used to your breathing.

Bring your own equipment. Fins, mask, snorkel, and wetsuit.

Special tip for women, you can absolutely choose a style that feels like you, but regulations require a minimum 3 mm wetsuit for protection and safety.

Be Ready for All Weather Conditions

Conditions change quickly on the ocean.

For the sun Hat or cap Lycra for protection Reef safe sunscreen and a face stick for sensitive areas

For wind, rain, and cold A waterproof jacket A warm layer to wear between swims

Being well equipped means staying comfortable and focused, no matter the conditions.

Keep the Memories, Enjoy the Moment

It is natural to want to capture these moments, but being fully present makes a real difference in how you experience them.

If it is your first time, we recommend finding a balance between capturing and living the moment. Even a few minutes without a camera can change everything.

If you would rather stay fully immersed while still keeping high quality memories, professional photo or video coverage can be a great option. At Wild Aura, we offer dedicated photo coverage so you can focus entirely on the encounter while still leaving with life time memories.

Your Mindset Matters More Than You Think

Come with clear intentions, but no expectations.

Visualize your dream encounter, stay positive, and trust the process. Every day is different. Every whale is different.

The best experiences happen when you stay open and present. Bring your best energy, it changes everything !

A Different Way to Experience It

For those who want to go deeper, we design small group expeditions, fully organized, with a strong focus on respect, positioning, and quality encounters.

Everything is built so you can focus on the experience, not the logistics.

Swimming with whales is not something you rush. It is something you prepare for, respect, and fully live.
